My first visit to Pension Ivatan was when Gari threw a simple dinner for me in one of the gazebos as a celebration of my remaining single days sniff, sniff. I was really impressed with the food and it was near the Basco airport so i made a mental note to reserve a room for Ceasar when he comes home that following week.

Two days later, i dragged my BFF Leila for a lunch at Pension and to make a room reservation. When we were showed of the rooms upstairs with terrace and over looking Basco, i knew then the place was just perfect! You can view the beach, the Naidi Hills, the lighthouse, those little island near Itbayat,..it was simply breathtaking.

Pension Ivatan is the newest inn in the island. A literal uphill climb leads to the best rooms which give a perfect vista of the town of Basco overlooking the Kanyuyan Beach and Port and Basco Lighthouse on the right.

Pension Ivatan is nicely located in town near the Provincial Hospital, Police Station and the Provincial Capitol. Rooms are air conditioned with Cable TV! Most notable though is that it has a restaurant that offers typical Ivatan food, Filipino and International dishes which makes it the only place in Basco where you could get a decent and delectable meal.

An aircondtioned double room cost from P980 - P1,100 inclusive of breakfast for two.

Unique Qualities: Try to get rooms on the upper level to get commanding views of the town and the sea beyond.

I was most amazed by the waters. Batanes is a group of islands in the middle of South China Sea. Anywhere I look, there’s water (duh!). Even if I am a non-swimmer, I just love the sea. The sound of the waters gushing to the shore, is very relaxing. That night, we couldn’t sleep because parang pinaghahampasan ng hangin ang mga puno. The northwind was so strong, we sometimes couldn't stand it. But we wondered, how come the cows, carabaos, and mountain goats seem not to mind the strong winds. We stayed at Pension Ivatan and we had a perfect vista of the town of Basco. While waiting for the dinner to be served, Raquel and I stayed in the balcony overlooking the lighthouse and we just talked about anything and everything while the sun sets. Whey! I’m teary-eyed now.

Pension Ivatan is a sanctuary for the traveler who does not have too much time in his hands. It is the lodging house nearest to the airport, and has single and twin-sharing rooms.  Ideal for businessmen and other transients.
